Losing Weight After Baby
How quickly a mother can expect her old shape back after pregnancy can old be based on guidelines as there are no hard and fast rules. Obviously just how much you lose after the birth will depend on how much the baby weighs and that of the amniotic fluid and placenta.
An additional seven pounds or so of body fat is gained during pregnancy but after birth when the uterus reverts back to its normal size and the hormone level starts to drop then the weight will start to fall as well. The purpose of this fat is to help with the additional energy required while breastfeeding and is quite normal but just how quickly this weight is lost odes depend on the woman’s genes, how healthy she is and the type of diet she maintains.
Whatever you may feel, it did take almost nine months to gain the extra weight so do not expect miracles when it comes to losing it quickly even though the press is always showing shots of celebrity mothers who have lost it within a few short months. There are women who will not lose all the extra weight until they have finished breast feeding and this is in response to the needs of the baby but every woman is different and there are no hard and fast rules.
Fortunately our knowledge of nutrition has progressed and used properly with an exercise plan in place there shouldn’t be any reason why the weight won’t come off in time. Many women in fact will be back to their original weight within a year of having their child providing they follow good dietary and exercise regimes. Although some women seem to defy this average and have their normal shape back within as little as three months.
Becoming pregnant and subsequently giving birth changes a woman’s body and makeweight loss after pregnancy a more challenging prospect than putting it on. This is one good reason if you want to achieve weight loss after pregnancy then you must take things steady and not try to rush, especially if you wish to stay healthy.
Sometimes weight loss after pregnancy is not recommended as additional energy is required by the mother to breast feed and take care of the baby and this can last anything up to twelve months. Whilst it may take over half a year for a mother to get close to her old metabolic rate and hormone level there may be some changes that are permanent.
Let us not forget that a pregnant mother can gain anything form twenty five to thirty five pounds but can lose up to fourteen when the baby is born. With perhaps another twenty pounds or more to lose the mother should follow the previous steps and attempt to lose the weight slowly but steadily within the following six to eight months.
